Analysis Competency in Solving Word Problems on Quadrilateral Materials Based on Polya Steps on Students’ of Class VIII MTS Negeri 2 Kota Bandung

The ability to solve mathematical problems is a way of thinking in solving mathematics related problems. This study aims to analyze students' ability in solving quadrilateral material word problems based on Polya's steps in grade VIII students in MTs Negeri 2 Bandung. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. This research was conducted at MTs Negeri 2 Kota Bandung and the subjects of this study were students of class VIII E MTs Negeri 2 Bandung, amounting to 32 people. The instrument used in this study is a test on
the ability to solve mathematical problems in quadrilateral material accompanied by interviews with students. Data analysis was done through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Based on the result of the data analysis, the conclusions are: 1) Students with high problem solving skills can better understand the problems given and answer all questions correctly, 2) Students with problem solving skills are able to understand problems and make plans, but most students do not solve problems correctly, nor do they re- examine the results of their work, 3) Students who have low problem solving skills have not been able to solve problems well through the Polya stages, which include understanding problems, planning problem solving, carrying out problem solving, and evaluating.
